The project goals

In the Occitanie region, the Association 3PA runs the “ecological transition school” to educate and assist vulnerable youth learn skills leading to jobs in the green sector and the circular economy.

The Maisons du Monde Foundation is helping design and build 6 buildings using green construction methods and reclaimed wood. Eco-construction is one of the 10 green sector jobs for which the association is training young people. The materials used in the first prototype building are derived mainly from construction wastes, especially wood, some of which also comes from the local waste disposal and reuse centre.

Plans call for building two 20-m2 houses per year with the young people, reusing 25 tonnes of wood (for the frame, siding and interior).

The Beneficiaries

In 2016, 100 young people acquired green construction skills by building an ecodesigned house. The Ecole Européenne de la Transition Ecologique educates 1000 young people each year about green jobs.

The project benefits

The project is innovative because it provides job training with a focus on sustainability. The recycling of wood creates jobs, in particular for young people, who are a priority for 3PA.

“The course is concrete and active, it helped me get back on the path to employment. After 5 CV-writing workshops and no professional experience, I needed to get some hands-on experience.” As a result of this experience, Mohamed earned a youth worker diploma and is now working at the youth centre in Labarthe sur Lèze.”
